What local funeral customs tell you about finding a provider
About 69.5%[1] of people in Michigan choose cremation, so local providers are used to the idea but may not have seen your species. That's normal. But if your pet was a regulated species, if you want to keep parts such as a skull or quills, or if you plan to move remains across a state or national border, check first with the agency that issued your permit or with the national CITES authority. Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Petoskey?

Is communal cremation a bad choice for a very small pet?
Not at all. Communal cremation is handled with care; the difference is that no ashes come back. For a tarantula, a small frog or anything where little or nothing would return anyway, many keepers find communal cremation the more honest choice and spend the difference on a memorial they can keep.
Does pet insurance pay for exotic pet cremation?
Usually not. Most standard policies treat cremation as outside cover, even when they pay for a medically necessary euthanasia[7], and plenty of insurers won't cover exotic species in the first place. A few add-ons pay toward cremation or keepsakes. If you hold an exotic pet policy, look through its end-of-life wording before booking, and keep itemized receipts in case a claim is possible.
