Exotic Pet Cremation in Dubai: what to know
Exotic keepers in Dubai range from sugar glider colonies in city apartments to wallabies on rural land. The practical steps differ: a glider can be frozen and driven to the right provider in a cool box, while a 40 lb wallaby may need a large-animal provider and a trailer. Use this page for the regional picture, then open your own city below.
Exotic pet cremation across Dubai depends less on the rules and more on who has done it before. In the larger cities, such as Dubai and Emirates Hills, you'll usually find an exotics vet and at least one crematory used to small or unusual animals. In smaller towns, the local vet may never have arranged cremation for a hedgehog or axolotl, and your pet may travel to a regional provider.

What local funeral customs tell you about finding a provider
Attitudes to cremation vary a lot from place to place, but exotic keepers everywhere face the same practical questions: will a provider accept the species, will anything come back, and is any paperwork needed? In Dubai, start with the vet who treated your pet; they're the most likely to know a provider who has handled unusual animals.
How much to budget in Dubai, from gliders to wallabies
Where published prices are scarce, compare like with like. Ask each provider near Dubai four things: the price for your pet's weight, whether cremation is individual or shared, what container is included and how long the return takes. In the markets we've compared, private cremation is often about double the shared price[1], which gives you a rough yardstick.
Pet cremation is available in and around Dubai, though the number of providers, and their experience with unusual species, varies. Prices usually follow weight bands, so most exotic pets land in the smallest one. Ask for a written quote in local currency that lists collection, the cremation itself and the container.
| Place | Shared (communal) | Separate (private) |
|---|---|---|
| UAE (pet under 5 kg shared; up to 30 kg separate) | AED 700 to 900 | AED 2,300 to 2,700 |
| United States (pets up to 30 lb) | $45 to $75 | $100 to $175 |

Permits, protected species and burial in Dubai
If you rent in Dubai, your lease can matter as much as the law. Many tenancy agreements forbid digging or burying anything in the garden, and a landlord can object even where burial would otherwise be legal. Cremation avoids the question and lets your pet's remains move with you. If you own your home, the burial and scattering notes below apply.
In the UAE, burying animals isn't generally permitted and private ownership of many wild and dangerous animals is banned, so legally kept exotics are small species that are usually cremated. Shared cremation for a pet under 5 kg costs about AED 700 to 900. Ask whether separate cremation is offered for very small animals and what would be returned.
Step by step in Dubai
- Move your pet out of the enclosure and into a clean bag that seals. If anyone else lives in that tank, keep the lights and heat on for them.
- Label the bag with your name, today's date, the weight and the species.
- If anyone was bitten or scratched recently, tell the vet before arranging cremation. Testing may be needed first.
- Store the body: fridge for a necropsy within a day or two, freezer for anything longer.
- Check your paperwork where a permit or CITES record applied to the species, and find out if the death has to be reported.
- Book the cremation once you've found a provider who's confident with the species, and ask for a certificate naming it.
Honoring a pet most people never got to meet
If you kept several animals of the same species, the loss can change the group. Watch colony animals such as sugar gliders for signs of stress in the weeks after a death, and talk to your vet about companionship. Caring well for the ones still with you is itself a way of honouring the one you lost.
The services page compares what each option includes, the planning tools turn your animal's details into figures, and the poll results show what other families chose. All locations lists every region we cover.

Questions people ask
What should I bring when I drop my pet at a crematory in Dubai?
Your pet, sealed in a labelled bag and kept cool in a cool box; any permit or certificate if the species is regulated; and a note of what you want: individual or communal, the container, and whether you'd like a keepsake such as some fur or an ink print. Ask for a signed form and a date when the remains will be ready.
Are there exotics vets outside the big cities in Dubai?
Some, but they're thinly spread. Many general practices see the odd hedgehog or reptile, and a few have a vet with a special interest in exotics. For necropsy or specialist advice, keepers in smaller places often travel to Dubai and Emirates Hills. It's worth finding your nearest exotics vet while your animals are well, and asking which crematory they use.
Does it matter where I bought my exotic pet?
For cremation, rarely. It can matter for paperwork: if the animal came with a permit, a CITES certificate or a breeder's health guarantee, keep those documents together. Some guarantees need a necropsy to be valid, and some permits require you to notify the issuer. A good breeder will also want to know what happened.
Where can I get a necropsy for my exotic pet in Dubai?
Start with the vet who treated your pet. Exotics practices in the larger cities often perform necropsies or send the body to a veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Keep your pet refrigerated, not frozen, and call the same day. Ask for the fee in writing.
Can I travel with my pet's body to a crematory elsewhere in Dubai?
For common species, yes. Seal your pet in a labelled bag and pack it in a cool box with ice packs. For regulated or protected species, carry your permit and check whether moving the body needs approval. Larger exotics may need a provider who collects.
