Exotic Pet Cremation in Bangkok: what to know
Exotic keepers in Bangkok range from sugar glider colonies in city apartments to wallabies on rural land. The practical steps differ: a glider can be frozen and driven to the right provider in a cool box, while a 40 lb wallaby may need a large-animal provider and a trailer. Whether you're in Bangkok or a small town, the questions to ask about an exotic pet are the same: will my pet be cremated individually, how will a very small body be kept separate, what will honestly come back, and what's the total price in writing? The answers vary a lot across Bangkok, which is why a second quote helps.

The local attitude to cremation, and to unusual pets
About 80.0%[1] of people in Bangkok are cremated, so the infrastructure is there. What varies is experience with unusual species. Some local crematories now offer water cremation too, which returns a little more bone material than flame and appeals to amphibian keepers who think carefully about water and environment. Ask whether it's available and what it costs for a very small pet.
That Bangkok rate is a human statistic published by Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023); there is no pet equivalent, so we use it as a signal of how families here already think.
What exotic pet cremation costs in Bangkok
Pet funeral customs in much of Asia are well established, and small pets are often priced in the lowest band with a short ceremony included. In Tokyo, one pet memorial park charges JPY 14,300 / JPY 22,000[2] for communal and individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg. In Hong Kong, a provider lists basic individual cremation at HKD 1,300 for a 1 to 5 kg pet[3].
In Japan, communal pet cremation often costs about half of a higher-tier individual service[4], and similar gaps exist elsewhere in the region. For a tiny exotic, ask Bangkok providers whether there's a middle option: individual cremation without the full ceremony, with remains returned in a small container. Some also offer a shared memorial niche at lower cost.
| Place | Communal | Individual |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo (pet under 5 kg) | JPY 14,300 | JPY 22,000 |
| Hong Kong (1 to 5 kg pet) | n/a | HKD 1,300 |
| Singapore (cat under 5 kg) | SGD 160 | SGD 280 |

Before you bury or cremate: Bangkok rules worth knowing
A few exotic pets carry health rules as well as wildlife ones. If a skunk or other mammal bit someone shortly before it died, health officials can require rabies testing, and that has to happen before cremation. There's no licensed rabies vaccine for pet skunks, so this comes up more than keepers expect. Otherwise, the rules that matter most in Bangkok are about burial and scattering.
A practical checklist for Bangkok keepers
- Make sure your other animals are safe. Fix the heat, cooling or water problem if there was one.
- Wrap your pet in paper towel, then seal it in a bag, so fine fur, scales or skin stay together.
- Call your exotics vet and ask whether they'd recommend a necropsy, especially after an unexplained death in a colony.
- Don't bury or dispose of an amphibian or aquatic pet near water, and don't pour tank water outside.
- Ask two providers for a written quote, giving species, weight and length for a larger animal.
- Arrange delivery or collection, keeping your pet chilled on the journey.
- Let yourself grieve. Caring for an unusual animal takes real knowledge and time, and that loss is real.
Remembering your exotic pet in Bangkok
Some keepers in Bangkok write a care sheet in their pet's name: what they learned about diet, temperature and behavior, and what they'd do differently. Shared with a rescue, a keeper group or a friend buying their first hedgehog or axolotl, it turns hard-won knowledge into something useful, and it keeps your pet's name alive among people who understand.

Questions people ask
What should I bring when I drop my pet at a crematory in Bangkok?
Your pet, sealed in a labelled bag and kept cool in a cool box; any permit or certificate if the species is regulated; and a note of what you want: individual or communal, the container, and whether you'd like a keepsake such as some fur or an ink print. Ask for a signed form and a date when the remains will be ready.
Can I travel with my pet's body to a crematory elsewhere in Bangkok?
For common species, yes. Seal your pet in a labelled bag and pack it in a cool box with ice packs. For regulated or protected species, carry your permit and check whether moving the body needs approval. Larger exotics may need a provider who collects.
Will crematories in Bangkok take unusual species?
Many will, but experience varies. Some have cremated hedgehogs and gliders often; others hesitate over invertebrates or very large exotics. Give the species and weight when you call, and ask whether they've handled something similar. Your exotics vet usually knows which local provider to trust.
How many communities do you cover in Bangkok?
We currently have local exotic pet cremation guides for 1 communities in Bangkok, including Bangkok. Each page covers local weather and timing, prices, rules and how to find a provider who handles unusual species.
Do I need to report an exotic pet's death in Bangkok?
For most unregulated species, no. If your pet was kept under a permit or licence, or is a protected species with registration papers, the conditions may require you to report the death. Check your paperwork or ask the agency that issued it.
Where can I get a necropsy for my exotic pet in Bangkok?
Start with the vet who treated your pet. Exotics practices in the larger cities often perform necropsies or send the body to a veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Keep your pet refrigerated, not frozen, and call the same day. Ask for the fee in writing.
